Emergency Public Jobs (EPJ)

Region XII COG, as the WIA grantee for Service Delivery Region 8, administers the Emergency Public Jobs program in the disaster-declared counties of Carroll, Crawford, Greene, and Guthrie in Iowa. The EPJ program employs individuals who were displaced from their job by the disasters of 2008 or who have been unemployed for a long time to work on projects that repair damage from those disasters. Work may be performed for any public entity (state, county, city, 28E, etc.) or any non-profit entity that needs help to repair damage from the disaster. So far, workers have been involved in trail repair, streambank restoration, tree trimming and removal, and office work to support housing program aimed at disaster relief.

Eligible individuals are enrolled in the program and provided a physical as well as all necessary safety and personal equipment to complete the job. Transportation is provided to worksites. Persons interested in working for the program should contact a WIA Specialist at 712-792-9914 for an application and more information.

The EPJ program is scheduled to end in June, 2010. Region XII COG is still seeking worksites as well as workers. If you work for a local government or non-profit who experience damage from tornadoes, wind, rain, flooding, etc. and desire labor to help with the cleanup, contact the EPJ Coordinator at 712-792-9914.
